| In February 2007 4Projects further increased their presence in the energy supply industry by announcing a 5 year deal with E.ON UK, the U.K.'s largest integrated energy company to provide the collaborative extranet for their Holford Gas Storage Project.
In July 2005 E.ON UK, a subsidiary of E.ON, the world's largest investor-owned power and gas company, purchased Holford Gas Storage Limited from Scottish Power, a proposed underground gas storage facility located in Cheshire. Once fully developed Holford could be one of the fastest churn facilities in the UK – meaning large volumes of gas can be pumped into the National Transmission System (NTS) very quickly.
The Holford Gas Storage facility when complete will have a total capacity of 162 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas and would be made up of eight separate underground storage caverns, each measuring approximately 100m in diameter and 100m high.
With the complexity of a project like the development of the Holford Gas Storage facility, E.ON required all partners in the development to collaborate closely and chose 4Projects to deliver a secure web based solution. The solution ensured consistency in communications and easy to use technology that could be rapidly implemented and accessed by all its partners.

4Projects is being used to ensure compliance with strict regulatory issues across connections to it's grid assets throughout the UK. Principal activities managed through 4Projects are the identification and request for grid connectivity, design and commercial development of the grid connection process and ensuring that transparency across a competitive framework are maintained with detailed reports against the regulatory compliance issues prevailing.
It is important that whilst the grid owner SPPS is to provide the grid connection and the power cabling between the proposed new development, site cabling within the development site is not usually undertaken by SPPS. However to ensure that commercial and technical compliance within the competitive framework dictated by OFGEM is always transparent for the main grid connection works 4Projects assists our Client in both the provision of the activity itself coupled with the unique audit capability inherent within 4Projects.
Each project controlled within the 4Projects application uses workflow to additionally automate the reviews and use a stage process for activating the work, for example:
- P.O.C (Point of Connection)
- Design Approval (Designs for the connection are laid out)
- Contracted Acceptance (The connection is created and power is activated)
- Line Working Acceptance
- Confirmation of Completion
