4Projects Ltd are celebrating after Centrica Storage Limited elected to deploy 4Projects’ award winning web based collaboration tool on their Caythorpe Gas Storage Project.
The Sunderland based firms award winning web based collaboration is seen as a key element in delivering the project which Centrica Storage Limited see as a means of addressing the UK’s shortage of gas storage capacity and also cements the relationship 4Projects has already established on Centrica Resources Limited’s Grove and Seven Seas gas field development in the North Sea.
It is estimated that UK storage capacity is only around 4% of annual consumption, compared with ~25% in France and ~20% in Germany and the USA: only the Netherlands, at 5%, is as low as the UK. Gas now in storage could provide less than five days of supply, according to the Conservative party, based on figures from National Grid.
The additional capacity at Caythorpe will enable Centrica Storage Limited to address not only this, but also the fact that foreign supplies account for 40% of UK gas due to dwindling North Sea stocks. With the UK rapidly becoming more dependent on imported gas, increasing the country's gas storage capacity is an essential element in giving gas customers security of supply.
Neil Jarvis, 4Projects Operations Director said “We are delighted to have agreed a contract for the Caythorpe project with Centrica, it adds to the portfolio of Gas Storage Projects currently utilizing the 4Projects solution and we’re thrilled to be associated with a project which is addressing such an important issue.”
4Projects web based collaboration tool ensures that Centrica Storage Limited, along with all project stakeholders will be able to view, amend, process, store, review, mark-up and diseminate all project data, such as drawings, documents and photos, within a secure, easily configured application.
The 4Projects solution is delivered via Software as a Service (SaaS) which is a model of software deployment whereby a provider licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand.
Some of the advantages of the SaaS model are explained by Mr. Jarvis; “Deploying a SaaS solution delivers a number of benefits to the customer such as reduced fixed costs and expentiture on hardware, applications and management. In addition, the ability to access the application from anywhere in the world and the fact that lessons learnt from other users/clients are constantly fed back into the core systems ensures best of breed functionality is always delivered directly to users.”
