Worlds Largest Windfarm to use 4Projects through to 2013
NEWS RELEASE
Date:     04th Dec 2009
Title:      Worlds Largest Windfarm to use 4Projects through to 2013
London Array Ltd, a consortium of DONG Energy, E.ON and Masdar, which is building the worlds largest windfarm in the Thames Estuary are committed to using the 4Projects collaboration tool for the duration of the project.
Once complete, London Array will be the first 1GW (giga watt) offshore wind farm, covering 90 square miles with upto 341 turbines installed. The project will supply enough power for around 750,000 homes – or a quarter of Greater London homes - and displace the emission of 1.9m tonnes of CO2 every year.
When fully operational, it would make a substantial contribution to the UK Government’s target of providing 15.4% of all electricity supply from renewable sources by 2015. Generation is expected to begin in time fo the London 2012 Olympics.
The 4Projects extranet has been deployed on the scheme since November 2008 but now that a final investment decision has been reached that deployment will continue through to 2013.
The Sunderland, UK based 4Projects extranet system ensures that all project stakeholders will be able to view, amend, process, store, review, mark-up and diseminate all project data, such as drawings, documents and photos, within a secure, easily configured application.
The London Array project is just one of a number of renewable schemes utilising the 4Projects application with other high profile offshore windfarm projects such as Ormonde (Vattenfall), Robin Rigg and Humber Gateway (both E.On) already successfully using the solution.
4Projects is delivered via Software as a Service (SaaS) which is a model of software deployment whereby a provider licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand.
Some of the advantages of the SaaS model are explained by Neil Jarvis, Divisional Director at 4Projects; “Deploying a SaaS solution delivers a number of benefits to the customer such as reduced fixed costs and expentiture on hardware, applications and management. In addition, the ability to access the application from anywhere in the world and the fact that lessons learnt from other users/clients are constantly fed back into the core systems ensures best of breed functionality is always delivered directly to users.”

About the Project;
The London Array Offshore WIndfarm in the Thames Estuary is being developed by a consortium called London Array Limited. The company has three shareholders: E.ON, DONG Energy and Masdar. The wind farm would be constructed in two phases with phase one having 175 turbines.  When fully complete the project would generate up to 1,000 MW of electricity. This is enough to meet the electricity needs of 750,000 homes – around a quarter of Greater London or all of the homes in Kent and East Sussex.
